Fade
Fade gives suggestions a shelf life. Each one names what keeps it true; when that stops being true, it withdraws itself over one beat and leaves a line saying why. If its reason comes back, so does it.
You’re chasing Halden & Co for October’s rent, with four suggestions. Switch to Arden Advisory and the two about Halden withdraw. Let the payment arrive, or move the clock past 14:30, and watch what goes and why.
Anatomy
When to use
- For suggestions that depend on a moment: an open slot, an unpaid invoice, the person you’re writing to.
- Wherever stale suggestions would mislead: offering a slot that has gone, or chasing a bill that is paid.
- Not for errors or warnings. Those stay until resolved (Beacon).
Behaviour
| Event | Suggestion | Log |
|---|---|---|
| Its reason ends | Fades out over one beat | “Withdrawn · Halden & Co paid the invoice · 14:20” |
| Its reason returns | Comes back in place | Its line goes |
| Its time runs out | Fades for good; time only runs forward | “The 15:00 slot was released at 14:30” |
| Used | Joins the draft in pigment | — |
Nothing disappears silently. The log stays closed until someone asks why.
Best practices
- Show each suggestion’s shelf life in words, under the suggestion.
- Withdraw on facts, not on a timer people can’t see.
- Fade over one beat, so people notice the change without it demanding attention.
- Keep the reasons one tap away.
Accessibility
- Suggestions are a labelled list; each is a button with its shelf life in its text.
- A withdrawal is announced with its reason.
- Under Still, a withdrawn suggestion goes at once, and the log still records it.
