Delegation
Handing work to an agent should feel like handing it to a colleague: you know what they may do, you can watch them do it, and you can take it back.
Before: say what the agent may do
Reach marks set expectations before anything happens. A screen where every control carries a mark answers the first question of delegation, “what will it touch?”, without a settings page.
| Mark | The agent… |
|---|---|
| Full ring | may do it and report it |
| Half ring | may prepare it for you to confirm |
| Empty ring | can’t do it, even when asked |
Turn on X-ray to see the reach of a whole screen at once.
During: show the agent at work
- Draw the agent’s cursor in tyrian, labelled “agent”, so people can see what it is pointing at.
- Turn the model mark in the dock while any agent is working, anywhere in the app.
- Report each completed step in a murmur, in the past tense, with an undo.
After: take it back
- Keep an undo on every action the agent took, for as long as it is safe to reverse.
- Hand work back with one gesture: Morph’s upward drag hands an item to the agent, and the same control hands it back.
- Never let an agent seal what a person must seal. It can prepare the release; only a person holds it.
