Lasso
Lasso lets people ask the model about anything on screen. Select words and the model’s actions gather beside the selection; the answer appears right there, in pigment.
Select a few words in either clause, then choose Explain, Summarise, Compare or Draft reply. Lasso works on every page of this app: select any text and try it.
Anatomy
When to use
- Documents, contracts, reports and tables where people need explanations in context.
- Instead of a chat panel that makes people copy and paste what they want to ask about.
- Not inside fields people are typing in. There, the system’s own selection menu wins.
Behaviour
| Pointer | Bar position |
|---|---|
| Mouse | Above the selection |
| Touch | Below the selection, clear of the system’s own menu |
The bar offers verbs that fit the content: a clause gets Explain, Summarise, Compare and Draft reply. The answer quotes what was selected, so it stays clear what it refers to.
Best practices
- Offer three or four verbs. More turns the bar into a menu.
- Quote the selection in the answer’s header.
- Keep answers beside their source. Don’t send people to a separate chat.
- Let people keep an answer as a note, still marked as model-written.
Accessibility
- Select with Shift and the arrow keys, then Tab reaches the bar.
- The bar is a toolbar named “Ask the model about the selection”.
- Answers stream into a live region that is read once, when complete.
