Murmur
Murmur is the snackbar for model work. It streams what the model is writing, proposes actions before taking them, counts down its own life, and swipes away.
Send each kind of murmur. They appear above the dock. Swipe right to accept, left to dismiss; press and hold to pause the countdown.
Anatomy
When to use
| Kind | Use |
|---|---|
| Stream | The model is writing something people will want to open or send. |
| Propose | The model wants to act and needs a yes first. |
| Undo | An action happened and can still be reversed. |
Don’t use murmurs for errors that block work. Show those where the work is.
Behaviour
- Three murmurs show at most. Older ones fold away.
- Swipe right to accept a proposal, left to dismiss.
- Streaming murmurs hold their countdown until the model finishes writing.
- Murmurs sit above the dock on phones, and at the lower right on large screens.
Best practices
- Lead with the object: “Lender call moved to 21 Oct”.
- Give proposals a specific verb: “Move it”, not “OK”.
- Offer undo on every action the model took on its own.
Accessibility
- Murmurs live in a polite live region and are read once complete.
- Every swipe has a button.
- Life pauses on hover, focus and touch, so nobody has to race the countdown.
